Ellipse Drawing Mode

This document explains how to create elliptical GeometryItem in Ellipse Drawing Mode (O).

Recommended Viewport Layout

For shape drawing, we recommend using the Top Orthographic layout. (Ctrl or +2)

In Perspective viewport, click positions may be distorted depending on camera angle, causing vertices to be placed at unintended positions.

Top Orthographic viewport provides a vertical top-down view, allowing accurate flat shape drawing.

Basic Usage

  1. on the icon in the toolbar, or press O.
  2. in the viewport to draw the first vertex.
  3. in the viewport to add another vertex. The added vertex is connected to the previous vertex with an edge.
  4. Since one edge is defined, the next vertex position is constrained to perpendicular directions. at the desired position to complete the elliptical shape.
  5. The completed shape is added to the currently selected layer as a GeometryItem.
  6. Press Ctrl or +Z to undo added vertices, or Ctrl or +Y to redo.
  7. Press Esc to cancel drawing and return to Navigation Mode (A).

Angle Guide

  • Hold Shift while drawing to display the angle guide.
  • The angle guide is displayed in 45-degree increments based on the previous edge.

Changing Layer

  • You can change which layer the completed GeometryItem will belong to.
  • on an enabled layer in the left Hierarchy Panel to select it.
  • Press , or . to cycle through selectable layers.

Snapping

You can create vertices overlapping other vertices or edges.

Setting Snap Target Layer

  • Press [ or ] to cycle through snap target layers.
  • With the default Any, you can snap to all enabled polygons within the current stage.
  • When a specific layer is selected, you can only snap to polygons belonging to that layer.

Vertex Snapping

  • Moving the pointer close to another shape's vertex creates a snapping effect where the pointer overlaps with the vertex.
  • at this point creates a vertex at the same position.

Edge Snapping

  • Moving the pointer over another shape's edge creates a snapping effect where the pointer overlaps with the edge.
  • at the desired position creates a vertex at that position.
